Fox 40 Whistles (UK) Ltd are delighted
to be sponsoring the Scout Survival Skills Badge, and to announce the
first whistle specially emblazoned with the new 'Be Prepared' corporate
logo. We are proud to be chosen by the Scout Association as a partner
in the improvement of safety of all Scouts, especially during outdoor
activities. If you need to gain the attention of a Scout, or even of
the whole Troop, the simplest method is to use a whistle. You may just
want to quieten the Troop to move the evening's activity on, or it may
be as important as a Scout summoning assistance if detached from the
rest of the hike or expedition. The Fox 40 Whistle is even louder than
a crowd of 65,000 people, so you can be assured of being heard!

fair play
Traditionally, Leader's whistles were constructed with
a cork ball. The cork ball created the sound, but often became stuck
because of debris such as mud, or froze and the whistle became ineffective.
The traditional whistle was also useless if the ball became wet through
rain or when crossing a river. The cork-ball whistle cannot be relied
on as a safety device.
The Fox 40 Whistle is different because it is pea-less, so it has no
moving parts to freeze or jam. It produces a truly magnificent 115 decibels
of sound, which can be heard up to a mile away. It is small and engineered
to an exacting specification from ABS plastic. It is ultrasonically
welded instead of being glued and features a brass-coupling ring that
does not corrode and is guaranteed for life.
Referees and umpires in sports such as football, rugby and basketball
also favour this type of whistle. One such referee was the inventor
Ron Foxcroft. While Ron was officiating at the Olympic Games his whistle
jammed, inspiring him to create the Fox 40 Whistle.
Today it is used by Search and Rescue teams, particularly in the Canadian
Rockies. It is the choice of Premiership football referees, American
and Canadian Coast Guards and now the Scout Association.
Fox 40's sponsorship of the Scout Survival Skills Badge was launched
at Leicester City Football Club, who are appropriately known as 'The
Foxes'. Scouts from the 9th Leicester Scout Group joined Leicester City
players to demonstrate how the whistle is great for sport, but equally
at home keeping Scouting activities safe. Former Premiership referee
Peter Jones, who was once a Cub Scout, was also on hand to keep an eye
on fair play. Limited edition Scout Association branded Fox 40 whistles
are available for only £3.95, or for £4.95 they come complete
with an attachment clip and Emergency Action Card.
